labyrinthine gloom that must be razed
distant brilliance, flirting glare
destroy the tunnel as you emerge to air

fires don’t start this fast, but they can grow
eyes light up, engulfed with spiteful glow
the smoke will build, occlude all you should see
the lights grow dim, it’s getting hard to breathe

streaks of gold, clouds of black
toxic thoughts seep through your back
vessels smolder, lungs are singed
the years to build turned on their end
there’s no border, no walls to shape
no help worth calling, no time to wait
seeking refuge from the moonless haze
rip the air out, douse the blaze
